U of M Medical Center Heart Support Groups
U of M Medical Center Heart Support Groups offer a place for people to come and learn about transplant from other patients. It's a place to share experiences and feelings related to transplant and VAD/MCS devices. It is also a place where special bonds exist with people who have had similar experiences.
Hosted by the UMMC staff the support groups are open to all patients who are being evaluated for, have been listed for, or have received a heart transplant or a VAD/MCS device at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. This includes patient families and caregivers.
Meetings are twice a week. Tuesdays at 1:00pm are held exclusively for Mechanical Circulatory System (MCS) patients including LVAD, RVAD, BiVAD, and NuPulse). These include both transitional and destination therapy uses. Thursdays at 12:00pm are for both heart transplant and MCS patients.
Traditionally these meetings are on-site at the U of M Medical Center however with the current public health crisis these support groups have moved on-line using the M Health Fairview video conferencing system. Connection with video is available via iPad, phone or computer. If you don't have video you can also dial in with a telephone number for an audio only connection.
With this announcement on-line connections used for the Second Chance sponsored Thursday meetings will be discontinued. They were temporary until we were able to get the official support groups back up and running.
