OUR PEOPLE
Second Chance for Life was founded by a group of heart and
heart/lung transplant patients who recognized a need for support.
We are heart and heart/lung transplant patients who received our transplants at the University
of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.
We are a unique, nonprofit, all- volunteer organization managed by patients for patients.
We have all had transplants or...
• are waiting for a transplant.
• are close to someone who is a transplant.
• are a donor family--the true heroes.
• acknowledge the miracle of the Second Chance For Life.
We know that too many people have difficulties before and after transplant and we want to help.
OUR DREAMS
The science of organ transplantation has come so far in our lifetime. Today, transplantation is the most exciting, healing process in the history of medicine. We have the technology to save many lives, but we need more than technology.
We hope...
• someday, perhaps in our lifetime, everyone who needs an organ transplant or tissue graft will get one. Currently, nearly one third of those waiting die.
• every family will discuss and understand the idea of organ donation. It is never the wrong time to talk about it.
• more people will act on their convictions about organ donation, if the time for that decision ever comes.
•
doctors, hospitals and the pharmaceutical industry will find ways to make transplantation more affordable
•
people who have had transplants will celebrate their Second Chance For Life, while promoting organ donor awareness.

OUR MISSION
To support people who have had or are waiting to receive a transplant. To make available what is needed and when it is needed. To assist patients with the miracle of transplantation.
Share and Care
We support patients through difficult times--mentally, physically, emotionally and financially.
Donor Awareness
We help others talk about transplantation and organ donation. We know the decision is a family affair.
A Transplant Home
We assist in providing emergency temporary housing and transportation for patients in need.
A Workshop For Transplant Patients
We sponsor an annual educational workshop for transplant recipients and waiters. We involve the doctors, nurses and transplant coordinators to further inform and educate our transplant patients and families.
